Recovery Slopes: How good are the regeneration shoes in practical tests?

Regeneration is a key word for anyone who does sports. With the Recovery Slopes, Blackroll wants to redefine the recovery ritual after training.

But can these shoes really improve the recovery process and are they a useful addition to your sports routine?

We tested the regeneration shoes extensively for 4 weeks.

These are the Recovery Slopes from Blackroll

The Recovery Slopes by Blackroll look like bathing shoes with a particularly voluminous and curved sole. What makes the Recovery Slopes so special is the negative heel and the dynamic rocker sole. What does that mean?

  • The negative heel with an incline of 3.7 degrees towards the heel is intended to bring the body into a natural, upright posture and at the same time stretch the calf muscles and the posterior fascia chain.
  • The dynamic rocker sole supports a natural rolling behavior of the foot and is intended to reduce the strain on the joints (feet, knees and hips) and promote blood circulation.

Recovery Slopes: How to stimulate regeneration

The shoes are designed to support regeneration by gently moving the body in a counter-movement to the typical stresses of sport and everyday life. The negative heel angle promotes a gentle stretching of the calf muscles, which can lead to relaxation of these structures. The dynamic rolling of the sole activates the foot and slightly stimulates muscle activity in the entire leg area, which is intended to support the recovery process after sport.

Personal experiences in practical testing

When first worn, the Recovery Slopes It takes a bit of getting used to, as the heel is lower than the rest of the foot. However, both testers felt very comfortable after a short period of getting used to it. The feeling of wearing them acts as a relaxing counterpoint to the otherwise often slumped posture. You can’t help but stand upright. The testers found the effect particularly great after intensive training sessions. The slight stretching and standing upright quickly made the legs feel fresher again. The stretching of the calves, which is caused by the downward dog in yoga, for example, now occurs by wearing the shoes. Although no quantitative measurement of the regeneration time was taken, the testers were able to see a clear recovery effect. No long distances had to be covered after training. Just standing on the recovery slopes was relaxing for the legs. The material of the shoes makes a high-quality impression. Only the shoe size does not fit one tester, as the sizes at Blackroll are limited.

Test conclusion

Recovery Slopes are a fascinating new development on the regeneration aid market. The concept of promoting regeneration through active stimulation and stretching of the muscles has never been seen before. We also rate the recovery effect on the muscles as positive – especially after intensive training sessions.

The fit needs some improvement, as Blackroll only offers four sizes. In addition, with a price of just under 70 euros, the regeneration shoes are an investment that needs to be carefully considered.
