The vegetable shelves are shining in refreshing orange again because it is persimmon season.
But uncertain looks often speak volumes: How do you eat the exotic fruit? The Federal Center for Nutrition (BZfE) gives tips on how to do it easily.
This is how you recognize a good persimmon
The persimmon only tastes sweet and delicious when it is really ripe. You can tell by the shell – it looks slightly glassy. The fruit also gives slightly when you gently press it with your thumb.
If you get a persimmon that’s too hard while shopping, simply put it in the kitchen at room temperature. So it ripens quickly within a few days.
If you don’t want to eat a ripe fruit straight away, it will stay fresh in the fridge for one to two days.
