What you should pay attention to when purchasing
When you stand in front of the vegetable aisle while shopping, the best way to recognize the best Brussels sprouts is that they are firm, green and without spots. This is when your Brussels sprouts are particularly fresh.
Prepare Brussels sprouts correctly
Before you wash your Brussels sprouts at home, first remove the stem and outer leaves. Now you can get to cooking.
If you cut the top of the head half a centimeter crosswise with a knife, you will ensure that the Brussels sprouts cook evenly. This is what this advises Federal Center for Nutrition (BZfE).
The vegetables taste best if you cook them for around eight minutes in a little salt water, vegetable oil or vegetable broth. This is how you conjure up an aromatic side dish.

Hot or cold: enjoy Brussels sprouts in a variety of ways
This is how you can cook the vegetables in the oven: cut the florets in half and toss them in a little olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Then spread on the baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for ten minutes at 170 degrees.
If you prefer it fresh and crunchy, Brussels sprouts go well with hazelnuts or walnuts, apples or oranges in a salad, for example. Serve with a dressing made from crème fraîche, vinegar, olive oil, salt, pepper, mustard, a little honey or maple syrup and chive rolls.
Store and freeze Brussels sprouts properly
If you can’t use Brussels sprouts right away, it’s best to put them in a plastic bag or container. Even if they are wrapped in a damp kitchen towel, the florets will stay fresh in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator for a few days.
If you want to freeze the vegetables, you should blanch the Brussels sprouts in boiling water for three minutes and then rinse them in ice water.
Then drain it well and freeze it on a tray in your freezer for 30 minutes. Only then do you put the cooled cabbage into a container and freeze it properly.
