This is what the gray circle in front of messages means
You may also see a small gray circle in the WhatsApp chat overview. This has a different meaning than the gray profile ring.
- The not completely closed circle with the three curved lines can be found directly before a message and means that you have interacted with a status of your contacts.
- This means you viewed the status and reacted to it with an emoji or commented with a message.
- However, the gray circle only appears in the chat overview, not in the open chat. If your next message to the contact is a “normal” one in the chat and not a status reaction, the gray circle will disappear on its own.
