Stiftung Warentest: vegan yogurt alternatives: More than every third convinces in the test

Even if the term “yogurt” is actually reserved for animal dairy products, everyone knows what is meant by “vegan yogurt”. These replacement products are made from soy, coconut or oats.

More than every third vegan replacement is “good”

The magazine “Stiftung Warentest” (issue 3/2025) took a close look at a total of 18 products from the “Nature” variety, eight soy products and five on oat or coconut base. The result: seven are “good”, nine “satisfactory” and two “sufficient”.

As a test winner, the examiners name the soy products “My Vay Sojaghurt Nature, Unlanded” by Aldi (grade 2.4). The soy products from Kaufland and Edeka performed better, but according to Stiftung Warentest have a changed recipe.

The test winner on a coconut base is “So good so veggie from coconut milk nature” by Andros (grade 2.1), the oat was best rated “oat jogu nature bio” by The Vegan Cow (2.2).

In terms of taste, coconut convinces the most

The conclusion of the taste: basically soy products have a bobble note, coconut products taste like coconut and oat products are reminiscent of grain porridge. The best taste of the coconut alternatives is cutting off the taste, the loser of taste comes from the oat league.

Reading tip

As far as the nutritional values ​​are concerned, soy is the best choice among the alternatives. Soy products score compared to oats and coconut with a lot of protein, less fat and fewer calories.

Original yoghurt has more nutrients

In terms of nutrients, the German Nutrition Society prefers the replacement and recommend two portions milk or dairy products a day, according to the magazine.

If you only eat alternatives, you should therefore choose enriched products. Calcium was added to every third of all tested products, mostly together with vitamin D and B12, to approach the original.

A clear plus of the plant -based, on the other hand: they are better for the climate than the real yogurt. Here, too, soy is once again in front of oats and coconut in the balance sheet.
