Reading tip
Cookie tins come in a wide variety of shapes, colors and patterns. But many people don’t know that the cans aren’t particularly suitable for cookies.
Where should you better store cookies?
Because cookies are starchy and therefore shouldn’t get too much air. This will make them dry. However, cookie tins usually cannot be sealed airtight and are therefore rather unsuitable.
Instead of tin cans, you can use airtight plastic containers. Additionally, you should always store cookies in a cool, dry place.
Cookies have become hard – what now?
However, there are differences in storage for each type of cookie.
- You should put coconut macaroons or cookies made from shortcrust pastry such as vanilla crescents directly into an airtight container. If you put an apple slice with the coconut macaroons, they will stay fresh for a particularly long time.
- Apple slices also help to soften already hard cookies. Just remember to replace the apple slice every two to three days.
- Cinnamon stars, gingerbread, stollen and honey cakes, on the other hand, should be left open for a day before being put in a tin.
- For crispier cookies, aluminum foil works best.
