Smoking: what you need to know and how they work
First came the weight loss injection in 2023 “Wegovy” (Active ingredient: semaglutid) onto the market. The second weight loss injection is called “Mounjaro” (Active ingredient: tirzatid). Both active ingredients are not new-they have been used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes for many years-and since 2023 they can now only be prescribed specifically for overweight or obese people who have no diabetes.
Both syringes can only prescribe a doctor to prescription. It is important to know that all users not only have to inject, but also absolutely change their diet and move more.
Tirepatide and Semaglutid belong to the active ingredient group of “GLP-1 receptor agonists” (also GLP-1 analogues, i.e. GLP-1 “copies”). This means that they are based on the effect of the body’s intestinal hormone GLP-1, which is released when we eat. Its effects include increasing the insulin release from the pancreas, which can lower blood sugar levels more precisely than other medicines, hence the previous use in diabetes.
On the other hand, it has effects on the saturation center in our brain because it reduces hunger or appetite and leads to slower emptying and longer saturation in the stomach. Overall, the “weight loss splashes” are less hungry, are therefore less and less.
An amusing anecdote: It is similar to Viagra (active ingredient: sildenafil) with the weight loss injections at the time, which was originally developed as a cardiac medication, but the side effect “stable erection” was then more lucrative! So here too: the (desired) side effect “weight loss” is much more interesting, since more lucrative than the main effect “blood sugar reduction & control”. And the active ingredients have many other effects – this has just been examined comprehensively.
Large study of weight loss injections: new knowledge and surprises
The researchers have in their new Big study The glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1-RA) systematically examined for the first time with regard to various effects in 175 health problems and illnesses. They stated that the weight loss injections not only lower blood sugar and weight – the risks for different symptoms and diseases also change.
The authors report that GLP-1-RA can not only have numerous positive additional effects, but also have some negative risks. It is therefore important that all doctors who prescribe weight loss injections to explain each individual patient exactly with regard to personal risks.

Future of the weight loss injection: news from research
There is a lot going on here. There is a lot of research – because “Bigpharma” sees a very high profit potential in this segment. A new one study has just examined both the already available weight loss injections and new substances.
And here the new active ingredients showed even better buyer results. In the coming years, some new medicines will surely come onto the market, so that the competition will be bigger – and that will surely have positive effects on the price.
