Jogging without breakfast?: That's why you shouldn't go on an empty stomach

No matter whether due to time constraints or because you don’t have an appetite in the morning – breakfast is often left out.

If you think that you save yourself calories in this way and want to reinforce this effect with a morning run round, you are wrong. Leaving breakfast can even be counterproductive when losing weight.

Reading tip

Sport in the morning is a very good way to start the day. After that you are guaranteed to be awake and the certainty of having done something for your body today puts you in a good mood and motivated. Those who jog in nature have also caught fresh air.

Actually, there is nothing against going a round in the morning – unless you miss breakfast.

If you don’t eat anything before sport, make it difficult to lose weight

If you fail the breakfast, you don’t consume calories. Saving calories should actually help you lose weight – or not?

Unfortunately, it’s not that easy. You shouldn’t do an intensive sport on a sober stomach. The body needs energy to produce full performance during training. After getting up, the body’s glycogen memory is empty. If you then burden the body, you have to expect hypoglycaemia. This can be seen, for example, in the form of weakness, dizziness or nausea.

The body can only perform with energy

Without available energy, the body must fall back on fat to ensure enough energy. The hook on it: the energy supply made of fats is much slower than those made of carbohydrates. A performance -enhancing training with hard loads is therefore not possible.

It becomes problematic if the body has to fall back on muscle protein to generate energy. Because then the muscle mass can take off and that is a hindrance to people who want to lose weight.

It becomes particularly dangerous when you take HIT style runs, such as interval or speed runs. This requires a lot of energy and is already an advanced training method with breakfast.

Tip: Even after running, you should eat a little snack to fill up the energy storage.

What you should eat before running

Of course, it is just as counterproductive to eat a high -fat and difficult -to -digest meal before running. Your breakfast does not have to be lavish, a banana or a cereal bar support your body while running.

Make sure that your meal contains carbohydrates and is easy to digest. Listen to serve the body and find out which meal best supports your body at Jog in the morning.

Under no circumstances should you forget to drink enough water in front of the run. Especially after the night, the body is dehydrated and needs liquid. Try to drink a glass of water immediately after getting up and to consume half a liter of water at least an hour before the run.

Even if you have little time in the morning, you should take a few minutes to breakfast and digest. If you notice when you walk that you will get dizzy, you may not have eaten enough. Listen to your body and go on it calmer. Next time you try to eat a little more. Slowly feel your individual running routine.

If you still decide to run on a sober stomach, then choose a relaxed run at a moderate pace.
