Easter: So many eggs a day are healthy

Easter: So many eggs a day are healthy

Eggs are important for nutrition: the protein it contains can be used almost 100 percent by the human body.

In addition to vital omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A, B and K there are also calcium, folic acid, phosphorus, potassium and iron in the egg.

No wonder that the egg is so popular: 235 eggs on average every German eats a year.

However, one should not overdo it: According to the recommendations of the German Nutrition Society, attention should be paid to moderate consumption.

In plain language means: a maximum of three eggs per week – this also includes processed eggs, for example in pastries, for example pancake or quiche.

Cholesterol in eggs

In addition to important vitamins and nutrients, eggs contain one thing above all: cholesterol. Around 280 mg cholesterol is in one egg – the recommended maximum amount is just under 300 mg per day. For healthy people, however, this is no reason to delete eggs from their menu, because:

In particular, cholesterol from the egg is far more harmless than previously assumed because eggs contain the fat accompanying fabric Lezithin – and it inhibits the absorption of cholesterol from the egg in the intestinal wall. So you can enjoy your breakfast egg without a guilty conscience.

One thing is certain: an increased cholesterol level can narrow arteries and thus increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases or a stroke. So far, it has been assumed that cholesterol -containing foods increase cholesterol levels in the blood – but this connection has now been refuted.

Reading tip

US nutrition doctors found that the body produces around three quarters of the cholesterol in the body. You can only control the blood level via your diet to a limited extent.

First and foremost, people who already have an increased risk of heart attack must be worried about their cholesterol levels, for example through obesity or high blood pressure.

Healthy people who do sports and eat a balanced diet do not have to deal with their cholesterol.

Incidentally, a blood check as part of the routine pension paid by the health insurance company from 35 provides clarity about the current cholesterol levels.
