Do you want to lose weight or fight your problem areas? Then you’ve probably heard that you should only eat carbohydrates at a certain time of day. However, there is disagreement about which time is best.

Some people value a carbohydrate-rich breakfast to start the day full of energy. Others rely on so-called ‘carb backloading’, a nutritional plan in which the majority of carbohydrates are reserved for dinner.

You can eat carbohydrates at this time of day

American College of Sports Medicine and (ACSM) expert and gym owner Jim White says, “There is no right or wrong time of day to eat carbohydrates.”

If you eat most of your carbohydrates in the morning, you can maintain your blood sugar level optimally and also lose weight. Studies have already proven this.

However, other research showed that a high-carb dinner and a low-carb breakfast also help you lose weight.

The study participants lost weight and size but were able to maintain their muscle mass. White therefore recommends that those who want to lose weight find out for themselves which option is best for them.

Carbohydrates – especially important before and after exercise

Nutritionist Michelle Routhenstein couldn’t agree more. She also emphasizes that athletes in particular need a sufficient intake of carbohydrates should pay attention.

“Consuming carbohydrate-rich foods before a workout helps the body work efficiently as the body draws on energy reserves. Carbohydrates can also help you lose weight.”
